Ocean-Related

Horseshoe Crabs and Their Neighbors

I’m so excited to share this educational download with you because I created it! I can confidently share that it’s creation-based, and the first lesson is about creation! The illustrations are so cute and were created by my friend, Elisa Lane. Check her out – she’s amazing to work with and so creative! This study is at least 12 days but if you’re like me, you can stretch it out even longer since some of the activities take a while. It’s also good for multiple ages. Have a look in my shop tab to learn more about it! You need to have the book, Seashells, Crabs and Sea Stars for the spine of the study. The bingo game below would make a great addition as well!

Apologia’s Marine Biology (high school)

High school creation-based marine biology curricula are hard to find. This is the book I would recommend (and happen to be using in a class coming up). You can purchase the book and notebook, which is very beneficial with note-taking and labs/ activities, using my affiliate links below. If you know of other high school options, please let me know.

Gather Round Oceans Unit Study

Wow! This one is a beauty, and the fact that it is a Christian based curriculum makes it even more beautiful! Check out Gather Round Homeschool website for more curricula and resources, including beautiful planners, full year studies and other subject unit studies. Of course the Oceans Unit Study speaks to my heart.

This is the description of the Oceans Unit Study from Gather Round Homeschool:

20 lessons (designed to be done 4 days a week OR for 4 weeks at 5 days)
• Beautiful, full-color Teachers Guide
• 6 student notebooks (print what you need: pre-reader (4-5  yo), early reader (6-8 yo), early elementary (8-10 yo), upper elementary (10-12 yo), middle school (12-14 yo), and high school (15-18 yo).
• Each student notebook will be 108+ pages (about 60 pages double sided for printing) and includes geography, science, social studies, art, Bible, history, spelling, grammar, writing, and more! Pre-reader level also includes math.

Beautiful Ocean Bingo Game

Click this image link of this beautiful bingo game. It really is so beautiful. I’m also including an image from my bar where you can see it spread out a little. It would go so well with any ocean-themed science curriculum. If you’re looking for a fun study, check out my guided study, Horseshoe Crabs and Their Neighbors in my store.

This may be the most beautiful game I’ve seen!

A Trip to the Ocean

This book was hard to find! There aren’t many creation-based children’s books about the ocean. This one is creation-based through and through. Also, it’s used as the spine to my study, Going to the Ocean. Check it out! Image takes ya to an amazon affiliate link.

Fun Schooling / The Thinking Tree Resources

I am so excited to share some resources from Fun Schooling! She has a ton of resources – both secular and Christian. The awesome thing about these books is that even the secular ones are creation-friendly without mentioning evolution! Here are some for the ocean lovers with my affiliate links (that I’d love for you to use). I’ll also share some others under the land resources tab. Check out all she has to offer at her website as well… from Bible notebooking to learning about baking and money, and even learning through Minecraft! Images below are affiliate links to amazon.

Apologia Curriculum

Are you a homeschool parent searching for a fun science curriculum? As a homeschool mom and marine biology tutorial teacher, I love Apologia’s Swimming Creatures of the Fifth Day. It is so full of interesting content and arranged in a way that’s super easy to follow and read. The student Notebooking Journal is such an added treasure to help the students retain information, and it also has fun puzzles and more science activities and labs that can be added. I’ve included affiliate links to both (main textbook is the first one on the left). There is also a Junior Notebooking Journal for younger kids that I’m linking here as well (far right). I’ve seen other marine biology type books for curriculum, but this one is my very favorite for 4th -7th grades. Even younger kids can enjoy so much of this book, and I would even say it can be used with older students because the information is so good! Below are affiliate links in images.

Creation-based online curriculum

So excited to have found this online marine biology curriculum and share with others! There’s even one specifically designed for homeschoolers.

Discovering the Ocean / Great Science Adventures

I used this little handy book in my marine biology homeschool class and really enjoyed it. The lessons and labs are both easy to follow. It’s so nice that you’re allowed to make copies of the pages too, since there are little student booklets to make that reinforce the lessons. While the authors are Christians, the teaching is neutral, and there wasn’t anything questionable from what I found. Click the photo to read reviews and order from Amazon through my affiliate link. Also, there are lots of other books as part of the Great Science Adventures series that you can learn about here.

Sea Turtle Identification Chart

This is a helpful chart you can download or print and use in identifying the different types of sea turtles.

American Museum of Natural History Marine Biology Link

Check out this website from the American Museum of Natural History for fun learning about marine biology. Although it is not from a creation viewpoint, it has great information and games for kids.

Ocean Crusaders Website

This website has a menu for educators with great info and games. Check it out here. Here’s a link with activities (like a word search) on whales specifically. Enjoy!

Sandi Queen’s Summer by the Sea, Discovering Nature Series

This consumable workbook-style curriculum has some very strong parts and also weak parts. I would recommend it, but first you need to know a little more about it. It’s considered to be a high school biology curriculum, but I see it as a great upper middle school marine biology curriculum with some activities added to make it better. My favorite part of this book was the story line. It’s phenomenal how marine biology information is weaved into a story. My complaint is there is no teacher’s book with an answer key and specific websites to use, since every lesson is completed by computer research. More activities and labs would’ve been nice to have in a teacher’s book as well. Overall, however, I really thing this is a great resource and love that it is creation-based.

Discovering Nature Series: Summer by the Sea

Firefly Nature School

This resourceful website has lots of educational packets and lessons. Although there are way more land resources than ocean resources, I thought I would include it here and show one of the ocean themed lessons. I reached out to find out if it’s a creation or evolution based site and discovered it’s neutral. Have a look at Firefly Nature School. There are often freebies you can sign up to receive!

Wonders of Creation Series: the New Ocean Book

This little book goes along with a series from Wonders of Creation (Survey of Earth and Sky) from MasterBooks. It is not enough for a stand-alone science book, but together with the other books and teacher’s guide, it can be a science curriculum.

The Seaside Naturalist

Before I say anything else, I have to share that this book is VERY much evolution-based in its information, so you’ll notice that false information. With that being said, I really think this is a super informative book covering so much! I wish it had more realistic and color photos, but it’s a great resource and teaching tool with fun little true / false quizzes. (affiliate link in photo)

Florida’s Living Beaches

Again, while this isn’t a creation-based book, it is so informational for Florida’s beaches. I like to keep a book like this in my backpack for the beach just in case I want to pull it out! It’s hard to read about and see the photos with details and design and not believe in the Creator, in my opinion. Image is an affiliate link to Amazon.
