Creation Studies Institute

I love the Creation Studies Institute website for so many reasons. Mainly because I personally use it as it’s good for adults to gain more understanding in all the huge topics of creation science, like fossils and climate change. I really appreciate the passion and time put into each article and video. I have chatted with Mr. Tom DeRosa, and his passion and knowledge are undeniable and contagious! Check out this video of his story of going from evolutionist to creationist!

I love this little book set for kids, and while I feel that it’s good for several ages and stages, I really feel that it would be a great purchase for parents just starting the homeschool journey or maybe just starting the creation science journey after being told by our culture something entirely false over and over about fossils and dinosaurs. CSI picked out several good selections and bundled them together for you. Sometimes it feels overwhelming to just start somewhere, and this is super helpful! Check out their online shop for other truthful Biblical goodies!

Winter Promise

I realize I always say how excited I am to find a good science curriculum – it’s just true! I get so happy when I learn about a creation-friendly or creation-based resource. If you feel the same way, check out all the goodies that Winter Promise has to offer. Check out the description of this specific science curriculum from the Winter Promise website.

“Hoot & Chirp, Buzz & Bite” is a fun science program designed just for young learners.  It is designed for grades 1 to 4, but many of the resources are filled with wonder, allowing children as young as five to follow along and enjoy listening, learning, and participating in the activities!

The resources this guide coordinates allow students to explore birds that sing, hunt, and swoop, and go up-close to examine insects and plant life.  They will observe birds and bugs, and also learn how plants thrive and survive around the globe.  The resources in this program feature fantastic drawings, photos, and illustrations that allow students to really see what they are studying, and learn by both observation and simple experiments.  They’ll enjoy a lot of nature journaling, just as Charlotte Mason advocated.

Here’s another one from Winter Promise that would be amazing to use if you want to learn more about conservation from a biblical point of view. To me, this is such an important issue because our culture usually tells us the opposite of what God’s word tells us.

Here is a part of the description for this one from Winter Promise

Slimy, Grimy, & Scummy No More” takes a look at the science of conservation.  Students will din their home are living off of energy homeowners pay for, how much a hamburger really costs, and so much more!

Along the way, they’ll also complete practical activities that help them understand their daily choices, and how to rethink what they can do to be a responsible steward of the earth.  They learn how to use sustainable resources, and make decisions to reduce, reuse, recycle, and rethink to make good choices about God’s world.

Ok, I have to add this one more, although there are even more options with Winter Promise – even math and language arts! This one includes several subjects combined and might look like the most fun to me! Please go check out Winter Promise!

Fun Schooling / Thinking Tree Resources

I am so excited to be able to share some resources from Fun Schooling. She has a ton of books for kids of all ages and learning levels and with special needs as well. I’ve shared a few specific to the ocean over on the ocean resources link, if you want to check those out as well. You will love the creativity in her books and how they encourage learning through exploration of nature. What I truly love is that even her secular books are creation-friendly and don’t mention evolution (she also has Bible resources)! I want to share so many, but I’ll stick to a few nature-based ones here. Feel free to check out her Fun Schooling website for more, and please use my affiliate links if ordering any of these.

Easy Peasy All in One Homeschool FREE curriculum

Right now during our social distancing and with everyone trying to keep kids busy at home, it’s great to have free resources to use to teach our kids from a Christian and creation science perspective. While this website offers a complete curriculum and so many class choices and electives, I’m going to share about the zoology section. There are two routes: 1-4, or 5-8. Most of what you need is online, with the exception of a few books and a few supplies for activities. Students will watch short videos and take little quizzes, have worksheets or artwork, or reading selections. It’s a great resource for a zoology class and so many more classes for all grades and ages! Click the logo below.

Easy Peasy All-In-One Homeschool

Here is the description of the zoology class from the website.

Students will study zoology through readings, videos, and a variety of online activities. Students will study the main branches of the animal kingdom including mammals, reptiles, amphibians, birds, insects, and fish, as well as others. They will study animal habitats, behaviors, diets, and adaptations. Special studies on endangered species, classification, mimicry and camouflage, as well as ecosystems and food webs, will be conducted. Students will complete projects and lapbooks and will have many opportunities to present what they have learned before an audience.

Reading List: Levels 1-4  First Book of Bees (selections), Tibbets Levels 5-8  Handbook of Nature Study (selections),Comstock; The Life of a Spider (selections), Fabre; What Really Happened to the Dinosaurs, Ham

Animals By Design

What a great way to learn more about how God created animals by His design. There are so many great creation-based resources on the Institute for Creation Research website. Check out the video to learn more about the book, Animals By Design.

Devotional Biology

I am so excited to have discovered and share this newer high school biology curriculum from a top creation scientist! I love how it all points to the Creator! There are lesson videos, and there is a lab kit you can purchase to go along with this curriculum. Here is a description of it from Compass Classroom. You can get 2 free lessons for samples from the website as well.

Devotional Biology: Learning to Worship the Creator of Organisms is an amazing opportunity to learn high school biology from one of the top creation scientists in the world.

Dr. Kurt Wise designed this unique class to fully integrate a Christian worldview with the biological sciences. The result is a completely new way to approach biology. He has taught this class for over a decade to high school and college students, and is now making it available for the first time in video format.

The class includes:

  • 67 in-depth video lectures
  • Textbook (PDF or printed hardback)
  • Lab Manual (PDF or printed)
  • Teacher’s Guide – includes test and lab manual answers.  (PDF or printed paperback)
  • 13 Lab Instructional Videos

One of the many interesting things about the class is how Dr. Wise starts with our understanding of who God is, then shows how God has created the living world to reflect His unique attributes in His creation. He explains a fascinating array of subjects from a creationist perspective, including the nature of life, Biblical kinds, biosystems, biodiversity, cell theory, the history of life, and much, much more.

This class is good for one full credit for a high school lab science. Image below is an affiiate link to Amazon.

Guest Hollow Biology

I just love Guest Hollow for so many curricula needs! Here’s an option for creation-based high school biology. Check out some of the details about this curriculum taken straight from the Guest Hollow website and check out other great resources there (like the botany curriculum I mention).

From the website description of biology: We’ve taken the well-known and rigorous CK-12 biology textbook and edited it  (thanks to a Creative Commons license) to fit a Christian creationist perspective. Edits are as follows:

  • References to evolution taken out
  • New videos added (you can watch them right from the online text!)
  • Christian material added
  • Definitions placed with vocabulary words in the beginning of each chapter
  • New pictures added
  • Custom illustrations created to better communicate concepts
  • Additional concepts and material added
  • Some humor was added and/or sections rewritten to be more clear/understandable

Latin and Greek root word “alerts” were created and inserted in the text – a fun way to learn vocabulary using science!

Human anatomy portion taken out – as we don’t believe several weeks study is adequate for a rich understanding of the human body. Click here for our year-long anatomy curriculum, instead.

Besides editing the textbook, we’ve researched labs and activities from a variety of sources for a variety of budgets, created a comprehensive year-long daily/weekly schedule, put together workbook pages to help students better learn and retain the textbook material, researched and added in some terrific links, videos and other resources and added a list of supplementary reading to expand on the textbook concepts via “living books“.

A Different Shade of Green by Gordon Wilson

Do you have lots of questions about how Christians can approach environmentalism from a biblical perspective? I sure do! I’ve really enjoyed this book and have lots of great take-aways from it. It even addresses climate change, and it’s maybe not how you think, if you’re used to the doomsday messages we constantly hear. Maybe, just maybe, global warming isn’t what the media claims it is. I’ve been looking for a book that addresses that. I’m so thankful God is in control of it all!

I love the reminder from this book that God created everything and called it “good”… and if we love God, we need to love what He made and what He loves – and do our part to sustain of what He’s placed in our care. Image below is an affiliate link to Amazon.

MasterBooks Elementary Pack: Soil, Sea, and Sky

Botany Curriculum

Guest Hollow has put together an amazing botany curriculum. There are so many resources that a wide age variety can enjoy! There’s a schedule to use as well. Just diving into the resources will get you excited about teaching and learning more about God’s world of plants, their purposes, and caring for them; after all – the more you know, the more you care!

Land Animals Apologia Curriculum

Here is another great resource for creation based learning from Apologia! Remember to include the notebooking journal for more in-depth review and fun activities. Image is an affiliate link.

And of course, there’s an Apologia Botany that’s good. You just can’t go wrong with most of their curricula, but I do have a couple I don’t care for in the junior high department (sorry Apologia, I’m usually a fan). Image below is an Amazon affiliate link.

MasterBooks Elementary Zoology

How awesome to find a complete science curriculum that’s completely focused on God’s design and creation of animals! You don’t have to worry about false teaching of evolution in this year-long science curriculum. Check out these sample pages from the teacher’s guide that tie it all together and lays it out for you to follow. Although it’s recommended for grades 4th – 6th, I believe it could be modified for younger and older kids too.

Tanglewood Hollow

I’m a nature-based learning junkie. I love finding resources (even though my kids have outgrown most of it) to recommend to other homeschool moms and educators. One account I follow on Instagram that has beautiful downloads and products is Tanglewood Hollow. You can even order owl pellets to dissect and beautiful information pages to go along with the dissection. I’m not sure if it’s creation-based or evolution-based, but from what I’ve found, it seems to be neutral and not mention either. You’ll also LOVE their Instagram account!
